Sardinia and Corsica

Sitting in Alghero airport waiting for my flight back to London. After a week in Sardinia and Corsica, the tan is a definite few shades darker and there's only a small patch of peeling skin where my out of practice sun-blocking technique let me down.

Claudine and Micheal had organised a hire car which essentially meant that the week was a perfect mix of visiting historic sites like Alghero's centro historico and the Nuraghe Santu Antino (which is this amazing town/complex dating back to 1600BC) in Sardinia, road-tripping to picture perfect beaches like Spiaggia della Pelosa with its Genoese watch tower and debating which super yacht in Bonifacio's port was the most pimping - neon lights in spa pools featured prominently.

Our XL mobile home ın Il Foce's camping ground at Valledoria didn't quite meet the standards of the apartment in Bonifacio's old town perched on the cliffs but each had its own unique appeal.

Unsurprisingly, food was a big highlight of the trip. A Cantinetta in Sartene was fabulous with its friendly owner, although the platter of charcutterie was a bit daunting when it first came out. Not sure that a nutella and banana crepe for dinner would cut the mustard with a nutritionist but it too was bloody good - especially after cocktails and shots at B-52. Top spot however must go to the pirate themed lolly store by the waterfront in Bonifacio - there must have been at least 50 barrels

in that store, each brimming with a different kind of sugary goodness! (Trust me, there'd be photos, only they weren't allowed in store)

Was fabulous to spend the week hanging out with Claudine and Micheal - am sure there'll be plenty more of that once I get back to London in September / October. In the meantime, it's onwards and upwards - next stop Istanbul.
